New Mobile Phone Technology from Secure Identity Systems Stops Card Fraud Cold
SIS_logo.pngIsrael-based Secure Identity Systems has announced that its new technology, mConfirm, “thwarts credit and debit card fraud, and potentially stops ID
thieves in the act,” by using “any mobile phone to match
the location of a consumer and their payment card,” analyzing it and acting on unusual results. IT professionals dealing with risk management should look into using mConfirm software as an additional preventative method against customer fraud. The service is also offered to individuals interested in taking preventative steps for their personal accounts.

Communications

New Connect One Solutions Internet-Enable Machine-to-Machine
Connectivity for Legacy Devices

external devices servers for secure machine-to-machine (M2M) IP
connectivity.” The two devices, the Secure iLAN and Secure iWiFi, remove the need to have technicians work on-site to monitor devices. Instead, devices can be “remotely monitored and configured over
IP networks in a completely secure manner from a home, office or on the
road.”

Israel’s next Nokia or Google

Last night, at the Jerusalem Business Networking Forum (which I co-organize), I had the opportunity to hear Orna Berry — a Gemini Israel Funds Venture Partner and the Israel Venture Association (IVA) Chairperson — give an overview of the VC process and discuss what VCs can offer Israeli businesses.

During the Q&A session, I asked her if she agreed with her Gemini colleague, Daniel Cohen’s Op-Ed in VentureBeat last fall that explained why Israeli companies that have been founded in recent years don’t reach their full potential and beyond, and if she thought that despite the current climate, there are companies that can reach the Nokia-level.

Her response was that she did agree with Daniel Cohen, but she only gave examples of successful companies that were established before the creation of VC funds in Israel, such as Comverse and Amdocs. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to follow up with her about this after the meeting and so, I am still left wondering, do any Israeli companies founded in the past 10 years have the potential to grow into a Nokia or Google and, if so, which?

High demand for Mellanox Technologies’ virtualization solutions

mellanox_logo.pngMellanox Technologies Ltd., a semiconductor-based server and
storage interconnect solutions provider, announced yesterday that since the January release of its InfiniBand drivers for VMware ESX 3.5, it has received a sharp increase in demand and inquiries from “partners, and end-users from multiple
enterprise data center vertical markets”. The drivers are drawing interest primarily for their ability to consolidate I/O adapters and, as a result, minimize the set-up process in virtualized environments.

According to the news release, Mellanox’s consolidation claims have drawn “heavy interest from
Fortune 500 companies” interested in “the ability to immediately save I/O power (up
to 30%) and I/O cost (up to 50%).”

To back up claims about its drivers performance capabilities, Mellanox will be showcasing its InfiniBand drivers in action at VMworld Europe 2008 this week. VMworld Europe is led by VMware (Virtual Machine ware) and is a key conference for business and IT professionals on “virtual technology and business solutions.”

VMware’s website defines virtualization (also termed “cloud computing” by IBM and Google) as letting, 

one computer do the job of multiple
computers, by sharing the resources of a single computer across
multiple environments. Virtual servers and virtual desktops lets you
host multiple operating systems and multiple applications locally and
in remote locations, freeing you from physical and geographical
limitations. In addition to energy savings and lower capital expenses
due to more efficient use of your hardware resources, you get high
availability of resources, better desktop management, increased
security, and improved disaster recovery processes when you build a
virtual infrastructure.

Data center architects and IT managers in vertical sectors (such as banking, Web 2.0 and healthcare) who are trying to cut their data center costs and decrease risk through virtualization should look into how Mellanox’s InfiniBand drivers for VMware ESX 3.5 can help simplify the implementation process.

N-trig raises funds to continue developing pen and touch technology

Venture Partners, among other investors, in its latest fund-raising round and will use part of it to further develop its advanced pen and touch technology.

N-trig is best known as the provider of DuoSense™

PLYmedia gets reply

PLYmedia_logo.JPGIn the past few months, several start-ups focused on video overlay products and solutions have made headlines. One such company, the Israel-based PLYmedia, was one of 15 selected companies that participated in the Israel Web Tour 2008 in California earlier this month and was recently mentioned in a post on NewTeeVee as being one of Overlay.tv’s competitors.

However, whereas Overlay.tv targets consumers, PLYmedia is more oriented towards businesses. According to the PLYmedia website, PLYmedia,

ActionBase raises funds

Last week, Globes reported that Activity and Decision Management solution provider, ActionBase Corp. raised $1.7 million from venture capital firms Giza and Vertex as part of its $6.5 million third financing round.

According to the ActionBase website, ActionBase is an Enterprise Action Items Management Solution

managing meeting minutes, decisions and action items. It is designed
to manage day-to-day action items and meeting minutes and fills the gap
between sophisticated project management tools and conventional
Microsoft Office applications.”

Runcom Technologies contibutes to new VoIP phone

Runcom_logo.pngA news release on PRNewswire has announced that Runcom Technologies Ltd. has jointly developed a VoIP portable telephone with Japanese companies NetIndex Inc. and Kaga Electronics Co., Ltd. using the company’s WiMAX (IEEE802.16e) data communications module. The phone was first unveiled at the 2008 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week.

According to Runcom’s website, the Israel-based company is a WiMAX chipset manufacturer that

“develops superior technological standards and
products that target the emerging Beyond 3G market, enabling the
delivery of enhanced communications services to cellular phones and
other mobile devices.”

While the company has focused on the Digital Interactive TV and Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) markets in the past, its entrance into mobile Wireless MAN services will allow it to play a role in the cellular
market which is the

“fastest growing segment in the communications arena, with
over 400 million new phones being sold per annum.”

Additionally, as the demand for mobile devices that deliver voice, video and data continues to increase and the technology changes, products and solutions, such as Runcom’s OFDMA®  technology will “make the importance of Beyond 3G markets in the future more apparent.”
